Artist Bio
Atlas Sturrock (They/Them) is an artist born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Atlas is a senior earning their Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art at Illinois State University. Their main artistic focus is combining illustrations with ceramics and creating comics, but they utilize a variety of media in their artistic practice.
They enjoy adding a sense of whimsy and weirdness to utilitarian objects in their ceramic practice, through sgraffito illustrations and motivational sayings. Atlas documents their life experiences being trans and dealing with mental illness in autobiographical comics to process their own feelings and help others feel seen. Their work is illustrative and intricately detailed, with cartoon or abstract elements, taking inspiration from many sources including cartoonists and animators, Medieval illuminated manuscripts, Greco-Roman mythology, and fairy tales.
In the future, Atlas Sturrock hopes to keep traveling to other countries, become more involved in the comics community, and spend time eating good food with loved ones.
